When Christmas Ends, Winter Remains
For many people, Christmas begins the day after Thanksgiving.
The lights go up. Favorite ornaments come out of storage. Homes feel warmer and a little more magical. It's a season many of us look forward to all year long.
And then, almost as quickly as it arrives, Christmas passes.
The tree comes down.
The decorations are packed away.
But winter remains.
That's part of the inspiration behind my Winter's Welcome Collection.
Rather than creating artwork tied to a few short weeks of the holiday season, I wanted to capture the feeling of winter itself—those peaceful moments that linger long after the last gift has been opened.
The warmth of a barn light on a snowy evening.
The quiet strength of a working horse team traveling through the cold.
A train arriving home on a winter night.
The simple beauty of country life during the season when the world seems to slow down.
Many of the pieces in this collection are also inspired by a sense of nostalgia. They invite us to step back to a quieter time when life seemed to move a little slower. Snow-covered barns, lantern-lit roads, steam trains, working farms, historic firehouses, old gas stations and other familiar landmarks remind us of the beauty found in simpler days and enduring traditions.
Some scenes are inspired by places that still exist, while others are inspired by the feeling of a bygone era. Together, they capture the warmth, character and timeless charm that make winter memories so special.
Winter invites us to pause in ways other seasons often don't. We spend a little more time indoors, gather a little closer with family and find comfort in small things that are easy to overlook during busier times of the year.
Perhaps that's why winter scenes have always spoken to me.
They remind me of home.
They remind me of simpler days.
And they remind me that there is beauty even in seasons that appear quiet on the surface.
While Christmas may have inspired some of the warmth found in these pieces, the collection was really created as a celebration of winter itself—a season of reflection, comfort and timeless beauty.
Because when Christmas ends, winter remains.
