It Was Still Standing
There are storms that arrive without warning.
They darken the sky in the middle of an ordinary day. They shake what once felt secure, test foundations we thought would never move and leave us wondering how anything could possibly remain when the winds finally grow still.
This old church has seen countless storms.
The waves have crashed against these rocks for generations. The winds have battered its walls. Seasons have come and gone, wearing the stone a little more with every passing year. Yet when the clouds part and the light returns, it is still here.
Still standing.
So often our own lives feel much the same.
We weather disappointments we never expected, losses we never wanted and chapters we never would have chosen for ourselves. There are moments when the waves seem relentless and the future disappears behind darkened skies.
In those moments, we begin to wonder if our faith is strong enough to endure.
Then God quietly reminds us that our hope was never built upon the strength of our hands.
It was built upon His.
The church does not remain because the storms were gentle.
It remains because its foundation was never placed upon the shifting water.
In much the same way, the grace of God anchors us beneath the surface where fear cannot reach. Long before we see the morning light, He is already holding what we are afraid will fall apart. Long before we find our footing again, He has already gone before us.
There is something about a place that has survived the storm that gives courage to those still walking through one
They remind us that faith is not the absence of storms but the quiet confidence that Christ is greater than every wind that rises against us.
The waves may come.
The skies may darken.
The seasons may leave their marks upon our hearts.
But the One who calmed the sea has never stopped watching over those who trust Him.
And when the storm has finally passed…
When the wind has spent its strength…
When the first light breaks across the horizon…
By His grace,
we are still standing.
