Beside Still Waters

There comes a season when the soul no longer longs for more.

Not more success. Not more applause. Not more proof that it was strong enough to keep going.

It simply longs for rest.

This old horse has known the weight of many journeys. The miles are written into every quiet movement, every weathered line and every unhurried step toward the water's edge. There is no urgency now. No race to be won.

Only stillness.

So often we believe that faith requires us to keep pressing forward no matter how weary we become. We carry responsibilities, heartaches and silent burdens until even hope feels heavy, convinced that stopping would somehow mean failing.

Then God gently leads us to places like this.

Not to remind us of how far we still have to go but to invite us to pause long enough to remember who has been carrying us all along.

The water does not ask the horse to prove its strength before it drinks.

It simply waits.

In much the same way, God's grace has never been reserved for those who have it all together. It is poured out for the tired, the discouraged, the faithful who have grown weary and the hearts that quietly wonder if they have anything left to give.

Perhaps that is why still waters have always been sacred.

Not because they erase the miles behind us but because they offer peace for the journey still ahead.

The world may measure our worth by how much we accomplish.

But our Shepherd measures something entirely different.

He knows when we need to stop.

He knows when we need to breathe.

He knows when our souls are thirstier than our hands will ever admit.

And in His kindness, He continues to lead us to places where striving ends and grace begins.

Sometimes the greatest gift God gives us is not another path to walk…

But a quiet place to rest beside still waters.
